We at Holloway Neighbourhood Group need new trustees to join our small but super team.
With a turnover of just over £300,000 our 5.5 full time equivalent staff run two centres bursting with our own and others activities, supporting good health and wellbeing and connecting people into the range of support and services across the borough (Islington).
We are looking for people who share our ambitions. In the coming years we will step up, growing our offer to meet the ever-increasing need while making connections, proactively seeking solutions to address the root causes and ultimately demanding more for everyone who lives in the unique, vibrant place we call home.

Volunteers wanted for In-Touch (friendly Telephone chat service)
SUMMARY OF ROLE
Supporting people who are facing social isolation by maintaining regular telephone contact – making time for a friendly chat and signposting to support services.
MAIN TASKS
SKILLS NEEDED:
TIME COMMITMENT: A regular commitment of at least half a day per week for 2 months.
TRAINING: You will receive training on our telephone contact procedures, which includes how to structure a supportive and friendly conversation, adhering to data protection and safeguarding protocols, and how to signpost to other services.
SUPPORT: A named member of the team will be your day-to-day support and we will ask that you commit to a group de-brief at the end of each shift.
REFERENCES: Two references are required.
DBS: As this role involves supporting adults with care and support needs an enhanced DBS check is required.
EXPENSES: Reimbursement of telephone expenses
No qualifications or experience required
Volunteers are required to complete an enhanced police check (DBS), Islington Council’s Online Adult Safeguarding training and read the HNG Volunteer Induction Handbook.

MAIN TASKS
- Contact people by telephone
- Provide encouragement and demonstrate a genuine interest in the people you contact
- Signpost people to services if they need support
- Record information about the call on a password protected document
- Email document to your supervisor at the end of your shift
SKILLS NEEDED:
- Listening skills,
- patience,
- a supportive/enabling attitude,
- a friendly and warm demeanor,
- ability to use spreadsheets and email or other satisfactory method of returning your call records to us
- professional approach – offering friendly contact and able to maintain boundaries
- able to interact with new people with an open mind

Volunteer Group Facilitators needed for Women’s Talk - a friendly group of women that meet weekly to chat and connect at the Old Fire Station

TRAINING
You will receive training on our in-person group procedures, which includes how to structure a supportive and friendly conversation, adhering to data protection and safeguarding protocols, and how to signpost to other services.
SUPPORT
A named member of the team will be your day-to-day support and we will ask that you commit to a de-brief after the group each week
REFERENCES
Two references are required.

As this role involves supporting adults with care and support needs an enhanced DBS check is required.
WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE IN RETURN
Supporting a weekly drop-in group of women enabling them to chat together about their lives and interests. Due to the nature of the group, we are asking that women only apply.

- Enable a group of women to meet regularly and enjoy each other’s company.
- You will be reimbursed for any travel expenses.
Supporting a weekly drop-in group of women enabling them to chat together about their lives and interests. Due to the nature of the group, we are asking that women only apply.
MAIN TASKS
- Facilitate a weekly drop-in group of women who meet for a friendly chat
- Provide encouragement and demonstrate a genuine interest in the people
- Signpost people to services if they need support
- Post group debrief with a team member raising any concerns
- Maintain confidentiality
- Ensure every person has a chance to engage in the conversation
SKILLS NEEDED
- Listening skills
- Empathic, patient, calm and confident
- Supportive and enabling attitude
- Able to encourage conversation by bringing in topics of conversation
- Professional–able to be friendly, warm, and diplomatic, as well as able to maintain boundaries and interact with people from different backgrounds

Minimum of 2 hours a week

You will receive a full induction by a member of the team

A named member of the team will be your day-to-day support
REFERENCES
Two references are required.
