Trustees

John Rockel - Chair
Picture
John joined the board in 2005. He lives in Islington and qualified as an accountant before completing an MBA. He is currently the Head of Operations and Strategy at a property consultancy firm. John brings his skills around business and financial management to the board.

Toby Lovell - Treasurer
Picture
Toby joined Holloway Neighbourhood Group as Treasurer in 2014.  He has spent the majority of his career in financial services and has spent the last 7 years working in commercial banking.  He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), a qualified Project Manager (Prince2) and has a BA in Economics.  Toby is originally from Devon and moved to Islington in 2011.  He is a keen runner and has completed numerous half and full marathons.  His marathon personal best is 3 hours 13 minutes set in Paris 2013.  Toby is interested in learning about different cultures and has completed volunteer work in Iceland, Latvia and India.  He has also contributed to numerous projects here in the UK.

Charlie Bowker - Secretary

Charlie is a founding member of Holloway Neighbourhood Group, having been on the Board of Trustees for nearly 40 years.  He secured funding for and set up the Stress Project. Charlie is a retired Islington Social Work Manager, and a former trustee at: Islington Play Association, Copenhagen Surestart Children’s Centre and Islington Citizens Advice Bureau amongst many other statutory and voluntary boards in Islington between 1975 and 2007.  As a Holloway resident he played a leading role in campaigning for better services for local people and securing premises for our work.


Sandrine Palmer - Trustee

Sandrine joined the board in 2013.  She works as a Market Data Analyst.  She is also a trustee at Islington People’s Rights.





Tom Neumark - Trustee
Picture
Thomas is a local resident with a background in community development. He’s the CEO of The Peel, a community development charity based in south Islington, and when he’s not working he can often be found with his family feeding the ducks in Finsbury Park. 

Tom joined the board in 2018. 
Wil Lewis
Picture
Wil works at Islington Council commissioning services across health, housing and social care. He lives in neighbouring Haringey, and is interested in community development and social action.

​Wil has a background in social policy and has volunteered with and worked for numerous charities in his native Cardiff.

Barry O'Donovan - Trustee
Picture
Barry moved to North Islington in 1997 and has strong connections with Islington and surrounding boroughs. He holds a business management and Spanish degree with further qualifications in Psychotherapy, CBT, Brief Solution Focused Therapy and Teaching. He holds MBACP (Accredited), QTS and MAPM accreditations.

Barry started his career in Financial Services and spent time with Prudential, PwC and ABN Amro as Director of Governance. He changed direction to qualify as a Psychotherapist and worked at ICAP, London Friend, Hungerford Drug Project, Haringey CMHT, HNG and now works as a Senior Programme Manager in the NHS.

Barry speaks Portuguese, Spanish and French and enjoys travel, dance and the theatre and joined the HNG board in 2018. 
Gabrielle Melvin - Trustee
Picture
Gabby spent many years living in Islington and now lives nearby in Camden. She works as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Office for Civil Society in the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

Munal Mehta - Trustee
Picture
Munal is a corporate lawyer having trained at a large City law firm. She has since seen the light is working with start ups in the London area helping them to realise their dream. She is passionate about the mission of HNG and all that the charity offers. 

​Munal joined the board in 2019.
